Care instructions for embroidered textiles

Care instructions for embroidered textiles

To ensure you enjoy your embroidered textiles for a long time, proper care is essential. While embroidery is very robust and durable, the right treatment will preserve its quality even longer. Here you will find all the important information on caring for your embroidered products.

General care instructions

Before wearing for the first time

Wash embroidered textiles before wearing them for the first time to remove any production residues. This also allows the fabric to settle and ensures the embroidery looks its best.

Basic rule

Embroidered textiles are easy to care for and machine washable if you follow a few basic rules. The embroidery itself is very durable, but proper care protects both the thread and the fabric.

Wash

Washing temperature

  • Recommended: 30-40°C
  • Maximum: 60°C (only for robust cotton textiles)
  • Lower temperatures are gentler on the colors and the yarn

Turn textiles inside out

Very important: Turn embroidered textiles inside out before washing. This protects the embroidery from friction and prevents the thread from getting caught on other garments or zippers.

detergent

  • Use a mild detergent for all-purpose laundry or color laundry.
  • No fabric softener! Fabric softener can damage the fibers of the embroidery thread and cause the colors to fade.
  • Do not use bleach.
  • For dark fabrics, use color detergent.

Washing program

  • Normal wash program or easy-care program
  • Gentle wash cycle for delicate fabrics
  • Do not use too high a spin speed (max. 800-1000 rpm recommended)

Washing tips

  • Do not wash embroidered textiles together with garments that have zippers, Velcro fasteners or rough surfaces.
  • Do not overload the washing machine – textiles need room to move.
  • Wash similar colors together
  • For heavily soiled textiles: Pre-treat the stains before washing.

Dry

Air drying (recommended)

  • Hang embroidered textiles to dry.
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight (colors may fade)
  • Pull into shape while the fabric is still damp.
  • The embroidery remains particularly beautiful when dried inside out.

dryer

  • Not recommended: Avoid the tumble dryer if possible
  • If a dryer is necessary: Use only low temperature and short drying time.
  • Turn textiles inside out
  • A dryer can harden the embroidery and cause the fabric to shrink.

Iron

Ironing temperature

  • Follow the care instructions for the fabric material (see care label).
  • Cotton: medium to high temperature
  • Polyester/blended fabrics: low to medium temperature

Important when ironing

  • Never iron directly on the embroidery!
  • Always iron textiles inside out.
  • Alternatively: Place an ironing cloth or thin towel over the embroidery.
  • Do not press too hard – the embroidery could flatten.
  • Steam ironing is possible, but with caution.

Professional tip

If you iron the embroidery from the back, it will have more volume and appear more three-dimensional.

storage

Store correctly

  • Store embroidered textiles hanging (on hangers)
  • If folded: Do not fold directly on the embroidery.
  • Store in a dry and well-ventilated place
  • Wash before prolonged storage to avoid stains.

Stain treatment

Fresh stains

  • Treat stains immediately – the fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove.
  • Gently dab the stain, do not rub.
  • Use cold water on blood or protein stains
  • Apply stain remover to the back of the fabric, not directly to the embroidery.

Stubborn stains

  • Pre-treat with a mild stain remover
  • Pay attention to the exposure time
  • Then wash as normal.
  • For delicate fabrics: consider professional cleaning.

Dry cleaning

When is dry cleaning advisable?

  • For very delicate textiles (e.g. silk, wool)
  • For large-scale or particularly elaborate embroidery
  • For stubborn stains that cannot be removed any other way

Cleaning instructions

Inform the cleaning company about the embroidery so that it can be treated with appropriate care.

What you should avoid

  • No fabric softener – it damages the embroidery thread.
  • No bleach – it can ruin colors
  • Do not iron directly on the embroidery – this can melt or flatten the yarn.
  • Do not wash too hot – protects colors and materials
  • Do not tumble dry at high temperatures – it may shrink and harden.
  • Do not pull or tug on the embroidery – threads could come loose.

Special types of textiles

Fleece and softshell

  • Wash at a maximum of 30°C
  • No fabric softener (it clogs the pores)
  • Prefer air drying
  • Do not iron (material may melt)

Polo shirts and cotton

  • 30-60°C depending on the level of soiling
  • Normally washable
  • Ironing inside out is possible.

Functional clothing

  • Use special detergent for functional clothing
  • Low temperatures (30°C)
  • No fabric softener
  • air drying
